” The Lord Himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). By the time this child is old enough to choose what is right and reject what is wrong, he will be eating yogurt and honey.” Isaiah 7:14-15
The very beginning of Christ’s life here on earth was radically different from the norm. “The virgin”, a term similar to our “maiden”, meaning both a young woman and a non-sexually involved woman, gets pregnant. This gal has a boy, and gives him a remarkable name: God. The baby is born and now God is with us. And regardless of whether or not Mary and Joseph were fantastic parents, Jesus was able to not only distinguish the difference between right and wrong but purposefully, consistently choose to do what is right…. by the time he started transitioning to solid food. By two years old (or even younger), Jesus is actively denying the temptation to sin and pursing righteousness; a mind-boggling concept.
Today, my mind’s chewing on the realization that God has no boundaries. He doesn’t need sex to make a baby. He doesn’t have to have the best parents to rear a child to be fruitful and Godly. As the Maker of this world and its systems, He has all authority and power to break the norm as He chooses. And He chose to do so…. to be with us!
